Today, we planned to have brunch out. We had reservations, Sophia was going to join us. It was a whole thing. Ben shaved. He put on a sweater. Then there was sleet, and of course, the backdrop to every story of the last two years, Covid. The restaurant was closed. All the restaurants were closed. Knowing Ben would be devastated, I pivoted quickly and made an impromptu brunch at home.
Dear Restaurant Industry,
Thank you. Thank you for reinventing yourselves every time a new safety measure is put in place. Thank you for continuing to serve your community. Thank you for cheerfully soldiering on in a war zone. Thank you for hanging in there. Thank you, Crippled Bear, for remembering our drink orders. Thank you, Barrel 135, for remembering that Ben prefers regular fries over the sweet potato/ potato mix (and not missing a beat when Ben confirms his order with, “You got it, Girlfriend.”). Thank you, DiSalvo’s, for letting Ben pick his steak. Thank you, everyone, for making Ben things that aren’t on the menu. Thank you, Herdic House, for always giving us the table by the fireplace. Thank you for offering food and comfort and stability when it matters most. Thank you.
With Love,
Ben and his Family
Oh how I miss the good people of Williamsport. ❤
The good people of Williamsport miss you, too!
This is so lovely Liz, and I echo your sentiments. I hope every restaurant around gets your post. They deserve it, and I’m sure, need it!
P.S. I agree whole-heartedly about eggs with peppers vs. western scrambler. I like veggies and even I was more sold on the latter!!
Ben actually likes veggies, but steak? No contest! It’s not a fair fight!
