Our Christmas was great. We don’t need to describe it with qualifiers – “It was fine, considering we couldn’t do all our normal things,” or commenting on only one aspect, “The roast beast was divine,” or the old second grade stand-by, “Sure, it was an awesome Christmas! Of course, it’s opposite day.” It was just a perfect holiday on its own merits.
We cooked together, we played games, we listened to Sophia play Christmas carols on her violin, we drove to Linden to see the amazing light display, and there were cookies. Lots of cookies.
When the kids were in grade school, we were given a tin full of cookie cutters by an older woman from church, whose kids and grandkids were past the cookie baking stage. There were shapes for all holidays and occasions. Throwing a Thanksgiving soiree and you need some pilgrim cookies? We’ll hook you up. Want to jazz up your St. Patrick’s Day with a shamrock cookie or two? We’ve got you covered. Looking for a way to tell the woodworker in your life that you respect his work? Why not make him a plate of hammer shaped cookies? We must have 50 different cookie cutters, half of them Christmas themed, but two shapes completely elude us.
Please weigh in! Who knows, we might even decorate some cookies to match your suggestion! (At the very least, we’ll secretly analyze you based on the Rorschach answers you provide.)
Maybe a duck on the left and a rubber ducky?
