It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. You would think that any kid (or let’s be honest, teacher) would be delighted to have a two-hour delay due to snow, but that wasn’t exactly how it played out in our house this morning.
Ben goes to the work site every Wednesday. It is the thing that gets him out of bed and on the bus by 6:15. Now, let’s be clear. It is not that he has a fabulous work ethic. He’s there for the food. They give him breakfast when he arrives. He allegedly cleans for awhile, and then they give him lunch. He has been singing the praises of the hospital cafeteria for years now. When the call came in this morning that school would be delayed by two hours, Ben was heart-broken. This would have been his first day back after Christmas, and its cancellation was too much to bear. He laid in his bed and sobbed. It was pathetic, but since I had a two-hour delay too, we decided we would have an early morning outing to the hospital to eat breakfast as a family.
To complicate factors, our heater failed yesterday and the part wasn’t available until 8:00 this morning, so I’m actually eager to get out of this cold house and get to work! Apparently, that wasn’t enough to shake things up, because Ben’s school just got cancelled, but mine didn’t, meaning we need to secure care for Ben for the day. This is where things get tricky…
Update: In case you were on the edge of your seat, we were bailed out, as usual, by our friend and neighbor, Cate. What a trooper! Ben was so happy to spend the day with her.
I cry, too, when I’m not getting my much anticipated meal. 😉
Sorry, not sorry.
We LOVE this blog, and we love and miss y’all (as we say down here).
Enjoy the snow~ Spring’s just around the corner.
We miss you and we’re more than a little jealous of your southern climate! I’m glad you’re reading the blog. I’m hoping it will improve my ability to keep up with friends!
On Ben’s recommendation, I tried a pack of mayo on my breakfast sandwich, and it is a serious upgrade!
