Last night we celebrated Sophia’s time home by dining out at the Herdic House. What a wonderful treat. We always share the charbroiled oysters appetizer. As is our custom, we had fully enjoyed them before anyone remembered that we should have taken a picture. Shoot. Ben and I share a passion for food that drives our food posts, but paradoxically means the evidence is often gone before we can document our gourmet adventures.
Ben could not have been happier with his meal. Duck is his favorite meat, and he was totally into this whole meal. At first he pushed the pomegranate seeds aside, but eventually embraced the holiday spirit and completely cleared his plate. We often order duck ourselves, but when we heard that one of the specials was braised goat shoulder, Phil and I both opted for that. Not sorry. It was delicious. Sophia loved her seared sea scallops with house made crab ravioli.
If you are not familiar with The Peter Herdic House, you need to change that. Chef owner Liz Miele consistently creates delicious, innovative dishes. I’m not sure we have ever even had an average dish there. This is fine dining in a Victorian mansion, but without pretension or stuffiness. If you know Ben, you know that he loves the basics, but also enjoys the finer things in life. I think he senses that part of the magic of the Herdic House is that when you are there, the multi-generational family that has owned and operated it for years makes you feel like a part of their family.
