Friday is always “weekend treat” day, and we are trying to keep that tradition alive during this strange time. We got carry out from the Bullfrog Brewery, and we’re happy to say that wings, burgers and fries, combined with patio dining on a lovely spring day, made for a great evening.
After supper, we went back to one of our oldest family traditions, a game of dominoes. We always take a set of dominoes on family vacations so we have something to do when the weather is bad and we are all cooped up together. Once, when Ben was in elementary school, during a downpour at Point Pleasant Beach, we hunkered down in the motel room for a game. Ben decided he would set up the score sheet, and due to nascent writing skills along with plain old orneriness, he rechristened us all. Dad became Ded, Mom was Moon, Sophia was Spohic, and he was Buc. Whenever we play dominoes now, we call each other these names. Spohic may have rolled her eyes in the teen years, but I think she has resigned herself to the inevitability of it, and she may even secretly not mind so much, remembering the early days.
Its fun to see Buc at this earlier stage.
Oh, he was a character, wasn’t he!
