This is a blog about cooking and eating with my son, Ben, who has Down syndrome.
Ben loves food. So do I. We always sit down for dinner as a family, but usually I’m the one making and executing a meal plan. When his sister left for college in 2015, Ben and I started planning and cooking a meal together every Wednesday. Due to family scheduling, we had to switch our “Ben’s Day Wednesday” to Mondays. Ben protested heavily (“Cooking on a Monday? Ben’s Day Monday???!!! Are you crazy? It makes no sense!”) but has since learned that, while it is preferable to cook on a day of the week that rhymes with your name, it isn’t actually essential for meal production. We now squeeze in cooking a meal together whenever we can, and we settle for sometimes posting on Wednesdays.
