Indeed, Ben. Indeed. Sometimes, when he is tucking into an outrageously generous helping of something, or going for fourths, I give Ben the raised eyebrows. He always shrugs his shoulders and answers, “What? I gotta eat!”
This week’s porterhouse steak was the culmination of Ben’s dreams, and the result of my seeing this new cooking method demonstrated on a cooking show when I was really hungry. Really, really hungry. That’s right, we owe it to you, our readers, to unravel the mysteries of properly cooking a 2 1/2 inch thick steak! You’re welcome.

Want a recipe for the cheesy potatoes? Hold on to your hat. They contain no actual cheese. In keeping with our new No Bones lifestyle, we can call them cheesy, and it is enough! They taste great. What more do you want?
Cheesy Potatoes
1 30 oz. bag of hash brown potatoes
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cheddar cheese soup
1 cup sour cream
1/2 stick butter
1 onion, finely diced
Salt and pepper to taste
Stir all ingredients together in crockpot and cook on low 3 hours.
Since we were cooking on a weekend, we had time to whip up an old school dessert, recipe courtesy of my mom. It is exactly what you should make when you want something warm and gooey and chocolatey. Can’t miss.
Hot Fudge Pudding Cake
1 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons plus 1/4 cup cocoa powder, divided
2 tablespoons melted shortening
1 3/4 cups boiling water
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup milk
Heat oven to 350º F. Blend flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and 2 tablespoons cocoa powder. Stir in milk and shortening. Spread in 8 or 9 inch square pan. Sprinkle with mixture of brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa powder. Pour boiling water over entire batter. Bake 35-40 minutes. While baking, cake mixture rises to the top and chocolate sauce forms on the bottom. To serve, cut into squares and invert each square onto dessert plate while still warm. Spoon more pudding sauce on top.
I always look forward to your delightful, funny, inspiring ideas put into action! Love Ben’s shirt – reminds me of our dearly departed Willow. What a wonderful blog!
Thank you for reading! Ben keeps the kitchen energized, to be sure!
