Calling all cauliflower! When I spied the giant heads of cauliflower at Wengerd’s, I wasn’t thinking “bargain” (though they were.) I saw it as a challenge. Could we use it all in one meal? Answer: Yes, but with leftovers.

Ben loves Buffalo chicken wings, so we used half of the florets to make Buffalo cauliflower as our appetizer. We roasted florets on a sheet pan at 425° for about 25 minutes, tossed them with a few tablespoons of wing sauce, returned them to the sheet pan and broiled on high for a couple minutes. Ben loved them at first, but wing sauce has a cumulative effect, and by the end of his serving, he was mopping his brow, guzzling ice water, and throwing shade at the sauce distributor (me.)

The other cauliflower use was as a pasta topping, which sounds odd, but when you chop it very finely and saute it in a little olive oil until it is toasty and caramelized, it is pretty good. We added a little salt and pasta water before mixing it with cooked pasta and topping with grated parmesan cheese.

Doing double cauliflower may not seem like much of a feat, but we have been a little distracted. Work on the cabin has begun, and Monday marked the beginning of garage demolition at home to make way for a carriage house style garage with an art studio space above. Double projects (but only one carpenter!)
Our carpenter constructed two windows to replace broken ones at the cabin using wavy, old glass. Amazing!

Now he is busy taking down the garage.

Our challenge over the endlessly rainy weekend was to find a place for all the garage contents. Some stuff found its way into the basement, while other things hit the dumpster. Doubles.
Phil squeezes house painting in between professorial duties. Doubles.
Ben is very unsettled by breaks in routine and general disorder so he is managing to work in some new attitude in addition to his regular orneriness. Doubles.
Though I am loving retirement, I have not yet hit my groove. Turns out that making all the meals for this family can interfere with my sloth program, but if everyone else can do doubles, I guess I can, too.
